Jane Asher is an actress and author who dated Paul McCartney at the height of Beatlemania. Here are 5 things you might not know about her:

— In the 1940s Jane’s mother, Margaret Eliot, was a professor at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. While there she taught oboe to the Beatles producer, George Martin, who was known as the “fifth Beatle”. When Paul and Jane started dating Margaret also taught Paul the recorder, which he plays in “The Fool On The Hill” music video.

— Asher grew up in London and was a child actress, appearing in numerous television shows, movies, and plays. These included appearances on the BBC, in the Disney film The Prince and the Pauper, and numerous guest appearances on different television shows.

— After finding Paul in bed with the American scriptwriter Francie Schwartz, Jane announced the end of her engagement to him on BBC, before discussing it with him. However, the couple had other issues besides infidelity, including Paul’s wish for Jane to give up her career once they married, which she did not plan on doing.

— Jane is still a television and film actress, and has appeared in Death at a Funeral, Deep End, and Alfie. She has also written three best selling novels: The Longing, The Question, and Losing It.
